Congratulations on writing a book! But… now what?

If you want to get your book out into the world, editing is essential. As an avid reader myself, there’s nothing I hate more than giving up on a good story because of silly mistakes. But believe me, it happens! So I want to help you avoid it.

I’ve been helping authors refine their stories for the past 18 years and its the best part of my job! I’ve worked on memoir, fiction (many genres), and short stories individually and in groups. My sweet spot is line and copyediting. If you aren’t sure what type of editing you need, read this blog post for an explanation of the different kinds of editing.

Editing starts at $25/1,000 words, but will vary slightly by scope and deadline. My editing includes: 

• A read-through before I ever make an edit
• In-text revisions for flow, voice, repeated words, and effectiveness (this is considered line editing)
• In-text revisions for spelling, grammar, style, punctuation, and consistency (this is considered copyediting)
• Comments throughout. I am not a developmental editor, but if something isn’t working for me, I’ll give you some thoughts about why
• A style sheet that keeps track of important details such as spellings of names, hyphenation decisions, style choices (such as putting certain phrases in italics), and more. This is very valuable if you choose to use a proofreader or ARC readers later on
